The five names as stated were not made up by Beas...

the five names can be found in a popular poem by kabir and vedantist text books ("maha kal" as he is called) and they are basically the name given to the energy forces which govern the different states of conciousness. See Anrag Sugar.

Notes on Beas Printed Letters

Beas, Spiritual Letters, 1976, page 133 letter #5 Chachaji to Sawan : 1. The sentence "Initiations may then be given by him and confirmed under your instructions." This sentence is not in the original letter according to Maheswari.

2. This complete paragraph is left off the same letter #5 ; "Instructions have been issued to Lala Tara Chand for sending you Prem Patra 1,2, and 3 per railway parcel. So you will get the books." The books Sawan was studying were written by Rai Salig Ram . The word Radhaswami was edited out of Jaimal's letters several times according to Maheswari and he gives several examples. There appear to be many distortions in Beas printed letters according to Agra which shows no records of some letters being written at all. Beas admits they have many more unprinted letters.

.................

Spiritual Gems, 1980 page xiv , quote " The society is deeply beholden to Maharaj Charan Singh Ji, for spending a lot of His precious time in selecting excerpts from the very large collection of letters and for permitting us to publish them. Spiritual Letters and Spiritual Gems were printed seperately."

.................

Beas also deleted an incident from a letter where Bibi Rukko clubed another woman and was chastised for her behavior. Bibi Rukko was a disciple of Baba Chanda Singh (who was reportedly a Swami Ji initiate) and went to Jaimal upon her master's death.

.................

Beas didn't produce certain Photostats at the time Spiritual Letters was written on key letters, which happened to be favorable to Jaimal. The dates on letters were also irregular, or not shown. Such as the letter from Chachaji to Jaimal regarding the voting for the ten members of the Council, in Beas Parmarthi Patra in Hindi, the date shows as 6th August 1903, in Spiritual Gems, Beas, the letter is dated 4th August, 1902. If the letter was written in 1903, of course it would be bogus. Kirpal corrects date in his book. But it is very clear Maheswari was quite suspicious of Beas letters saying there were no records at Agra of such.

.................

At this point we don't know what Beas letters are genuine, if any. It would require handwriting experts to determine authenticity. The author of this Secret History is assuming some events occured, such as Bhandaras for Jaimal after his death, etc., but we really have no idea if the printed Beas letters in books are for real. And, if they are, if they would be complelely contradicted by the many unpublished letters. Recent revelations say someone at the Dera whom had read the original letters, rewrote them from memory.

.................

There are problems with all claimed Beas miracles. Such as Kehr Singh Sasmus in the book DAWN OF LIGHT, Beas makes a claim about the "radiant" form of Sawan appearing above Kehr's head in 1908. "No such incident happened, at least as recalled by Sasmus", according to Dr. David Lane, 01/15/2000, Neuralsurfer Site,#6363 RS Studies Club.

Re: Sawan Singh on Miracles neuralsurfer, David Lane, 2/3/00 1:30 pm

"Immense Powers which the Masters possess"-- Hmm.... Why is it that there is so much hype in R.S. about these gurus' powers, when, on closer inspection, we find that no such "transmundane" miracles occur? I think this very rhetoric ,provided here by Sawan Singh, about Masters and their Powers is itself a Con, a Deception. In any case, if such claims were made about engineers we would ask them to PROVE IT. Now when we hear "But they do not let supernatural powers even approach them, much less accept and use them" [Sawan Singh quote], my gut tells me something quite different: Hey, I haven't seen supernatural powers in the first place, much less see some Guru demonstrate it. In fact, I think this whole notion of supernatural powers and that gurus don't display them is itself a cop-out. They cannot display such powers for a much simpler reason. THEY DON'T HAVE THEM. End David Lane quote

.................

In same book Dawn at Light, Beas, "Hazur (Sawan) was well pleased with their (Dr. & Mrs. Brock, of USA) sincerity and sent them Radha Soami Mat Prakash (Salig Ram book) and Discourses on Radha Soami Faith (Sankar Misra book)" . The Brocks were the earliest Sawan disciples in the USA and they received RS books written by the Agra lineage gurus.

.................

Professor Dr. David Lane (a Beas initiate) is the author of Faqir Chand, The Unknowing Sage, a must read book linked free off this site, which is possibly the best RS book ever written. Lane also spent years researching Radhasoami Reality book with Mark Juergensmeyer. They are long time friends. The problem is, Juergensmeyer did not mention David Lane as a Beas initiate, Beas editor, Beas insider, or friend of Charan Singh. This is crucial because Lane may have an extreme bias towards Beas side of history.

........ 6 .........

**See Jaimal's letters below in notes. This writer of Secret History feels the key letter of Jaimal to Sawan, giving his reasons for not wanting to join the Council, is bogus for the following reasons: #1, that Misra used Radhaswami name at initiation instead of the 5 names and had forgotten the method of bhajan. Jaimal and Sawan accepted Chachaji as a sant and Chachaji used Radhasoami as initiation word. Since Misra mentioned in letters squatting position, this was not at issue. Solace to Satsangis, 1907, Benares, Misra writes to satsangi in a July 16,1899 letter ; "Yes, somtimes the sound of the bell is heard without shutting the ears in the proscribed position..." Agra and related groups use exact initiation as Beas to this day, including squatting, except of course, they use Radhasoami as initiation word. Jaimal had given Sawan this exact (squatting) initiation in his 1894 initiation. Reason #2 , Jaimal stated he wanted no part of the Council because Swami Ji's family had no part of it, nor authority in it. But, Chachaji (Swami Ji's brother was pre announced President of the Council) and 3 of his sons were on Council ballots for election. Chachaji and 2 of his sons were on the initial first Council, the 3rd son came on later. If Jaimal actually sent this letter to Sawan, Sawan would know it was not true. Sawan would have known Chachaji would be the president of the Council automatically, he was not in the voting for the Council. Sawan saw the ballots for Council which Jaimal sent him and could see the 3 sons of Chachaji on it.

.................

The fact is, Sankar Misra had not changed the initiation, or bhajan, or method of meditation in any way. Sawan, upon taking leadership at Beas, told Chachaji he considered him the 'very form of Baba Jaimal' in Beas books. Only Radhasoami was the difference in initiation nam.

.................

Spiritual Letters,Beas, page 105;(regarding Council) Jaimal says "the heirs of Swami Ji have no connection with it, nor is their authority recognized by the committee." Chachaji (Pratap Singh ) was the president of the Council formed in 1902, clearly the president would have authority!!! Remember, Radha Ji had died in 1894.

.................

Hence, Jaimal's reasons for not wanting to join the Council given by Beas, are only plausible to people who know absolutely nothing about the history of the time. Regarding the money issue #3 (sending names of Beas initiates to Council), we will see that Chachaji, Sudarshan and Council gave a great deal of personal wealth to maintain it. It would appear Jaimal was the one wanting to keep satsang donations by not sending in the names of the Beas satsangis, not the Council, whom may have felt Jaimal's flock was being fleeced. And it is this writers belief that this was really a key issue. The excommunication was actually about Jaimal not sending in the names (although in court Adjohia (Salig Ram's son) said it was also because Jaimal was still posing as a guru). By not sending in the names, Jaimal knew the Council might have a difficult time determining how much money he had collected and what he was doing with it. It is recorded in a printed Beas letter from Jaimal to Sawan 'to wait until Chachaji asks for the names 3 or 4 times'. Jaimal claimed his satsangis were poor (as if Agra's satsangis were any better off?) and did not want them to donate to the Council. Radhasoami Faith, Dr. Agam Mathur,p.111 Registed branches ....The Council kept a record of all such centres, and examined and audited their accounts. Note: Dr. Mathur's grandfather, Adjohia (Lalaji, son of Salig Ram), had been Council president after Chachaji's death. DR. Mathur is current master at Pipal Mandi of that group.

.................

It is known Sawan also did not send in the names to the Council after Jaimal's death, but they must have felt he was honest with the donations, as he was not reprimanded. And Sawan, seeing the excommunication of Jaimal, would certainly not make the same mistake twice. But, we all know a few rich satsangis can make a guru quite wealthy, especially if properties are left in wills. Sikh's comprise about 61% of the population in the Punjab today.

.................

It is this writers belief that the Council may have had suspicions about where the donations to Jaimal were going and how they were being spent. It has been rumored the Beas land was donated by Sikhs for use under the Granth Sahib to Jaimal and that Charan Singh went to court to affirm later, but this writer has not verified this.

.................

It is claimed Jaimal and Sawan did not like the tomb of Swami Ji being built, but it has been recorded Sawan and disciples used to visit and perform homage with ritual there.

.................

Spiritual Letters,1976,Beas,p.137 in Chachaji letter to Sawan quote says "It is my great desire that after Baba Ji and myself, there should be two or three Saints who should spread Radhaswami Mat". Chachaji had reprimanded Jaimal for posing as a guru. How in the world could Chachaji write in a letter that he considered Jaimal a Saint !!!!

.................

Beas has not printed the reprimand from Chachaji and Council for posing as a guru. Wonder why ? Hence, Beas letters published in books are in severe authenticity question. Remember, any guru or group can write the most outrageous history they want and omit all important facts; and who can hold them responsible?

.................

Perspective on the Council. Jaimal initiated about half his 2,000 disciples in Beas after his army retirement. So, when Council vote took place in 1902, he had at most 1,000 people in Beas, against the 10's of thousands of initiates from from the main groups of RS. Yet, Jaimal requested he be given 3 seats on the Council as a condition of his joining. He requested his satsangis not be required to donate money (aka, Jaimal not have to send Beas money in). Despite not being voted into Council, he was allowed to initiate on condition he stop posing as a guru and send in donations (names of initiates). According to all court testimony Jaimal broke his promises and was excommunicated.

.................

Out of all these major high grade initiates of Swami Ji and Salig Ram, whom does Beas point to as confirmation of Jaimal's ligitimacy ? Baba Gharib Das, blind helpless sadhu. He had a tiny group that later became very strange and faded out of existence. Seems an extremely desperate fall back. Beas even has Chachaji asking Gharib Das a question on the inner planes in one of their books, to boost the status of this nobody. Chachaji did not consider Gharib Das a sat guru, but another unauthorized initiator, just like Jaimal and others. Part of the reason for the Council was to reign in these wildcats. Now days we might call them fakes.

.................

It is interesting to note Adjohia ( Salig Ram's son who came in second in voting for Council and had largest RS group) verified in court, that he knew Misra would become the sat guru after his father. This verified Sudarshan's statements that they knew Sankar Misra was Salig Ram's successor long before Misra made it public.

.................

Salig Ram letter to Sankar Misra April 6,1891 ; "You can initiate anyone whom you find a sincere seacher of truth and inclined to practise our mode of devotion", Holy Epistles,pt.2,1991,p.93.

Same book page 109, Salig Ram says in letter to Misra about Babuji Madhav Sinha (5th sat guru), "On leaving Allahabad, you should ask Babuji Madhav Sinha to take up the work of President of the Satsang and assist the Satsangis with his counsel and advice."

Babuji Madhav Sinha's grandmother was the elder sister of Swami Ji and Babuji had been initated by Swami Ji at a very young age. Photos of Swami Ji and Babuji together exist and are shown in this above referenced book. Babuji was one of Swami Ji's favorites and was also a blood relation to Tulsi Sahib of Hathras. Misra and Babuji were best friends and there are many letters from Salig Ram to them.

Same book page 2, the common salutation from Swami Ji to Salig Ram on letters was "Beloved of the Satguru, Blessed of the Lord, Adorned with Shabd, My dear Salig Ram !

Page 51 same book has Salig Ram using exact words in letter to Babuji Sinha as "Beloved of Radhasoami, Adorned with Shabd, My dear Babu Madho Prasad Ji Saheb !" Some decades later this salutation became common on satsangi letters to each other. Note Beas printed letters of Jaimal, for example.

Extracts of Sudarshan Singh Court Depositions under oath

Commission proceedings June 29,1926, 6:45 A.M.

Sudarshan states he is 68 years old and has been a Satsangi for 60 years. He was present at Swami Ji's last statement and noted he currently owned the home Swami Ji was born in at Panni Gali.

"Soami Ji left Soami Bagh and Radha Bagh. Soami Ji Maharaj said orally at the last moment that Chachaji was the owner of the Bagh. But, Chachaji had made Salig Ram to join in the arrangement and expenses. Chachaji considered that the property belonged to the Sant Sat Guru, and Soami Ji had said that Salig Ram was the Sant Sat Guru, so he (Chachaji) gave them in charge of Salig Ram....most of the expenses were defrayed by Salig Ram.... Maharaj Saheb (Sankar Misra) remained in possesion the same way as Salig Ram before him as Chachaji had found out from Salig Ram that Sankar Misra would be the future Sant Sat Guru. Salig Ram left Prem Bilas, Prem Niwas and other small houses. After Salig Ram, Sankar Misra became the owner of these properties. Chachaji executed a will in 1902 (to Misra) so there might be no future dispute of heirs or Satsangis. Now, Babuji (Madhav Sinha) is the absolute owner of the property with all rights, excepting the three Samadhs (of Soami Ji, Salig ram and Misra). I consider Sant Sat Guru Babuji (Madhav Sinha) as the incarnation of Radhasoami Dayal and I offer Bhet to him. I offered to Babuji Maharaj personally." End Sudarshan quote.

.................

Correspondence Americans .,1,page168

After the departure of Swami Ji, Baba Jaimal Singh accepted the leadership of Salig Ram.. For certain acts of misbehavior he was reprimanded by Salig Ram, after which he absented himself from Satsang. After Salig Ram's departure he came to Sankar Misra, but again had to be removed from Satsang for his unbecoming and undesirable activities. Sawan Singh behaved meekly and respectfully before the Soami Bagh Gurus and maintained friendly relations. Bagga Singh ( a Jaimal successor ) was succeeded by Sardar Dewa Singh, whom also came to Soami Bagh and stayed for some time to attend Babuji's (Madhav Sinha) satsangs, and used to offer Bhets of significant amounts as a mark of respect and consideration for the parent stock.

.................

Correspondence, Maheswari,1,page127

As late as 1938, when Sawan Singh was attending Babuji's (Madhav Sinha) Satsang, he voluntarily chose to sit on the ground just as other members of the congregation, while Babuji occupied the raised seat on the dias, as Sant Sat Guru. Off and on Sawan Singh sought elucidations from Babuji of difficult hymns in Sar Bachan Poetry, and for this purpose he use to come all the way from Punjab to attend theSatsang of Babuji at Allahabad, and remained there for weeks together. Maheswari notes Sawan's action as an eye witness and Jaimal's actions as recorded in Privy Council Paper Book. Maheswari had a Masters of Science and his parents were Satsangis in 1900.

It should be noted Agra states many times Jaimal was an initiate of Swami Ji in their books, even Dr. Agam Mathur assumes it. But, it appears more as a matter of basis for discussion, as no proof is ever presented. It seems from politeness or courtesy to Beas, this concession is made by historians. The writer of Secret History has seen nothing even remotely close to proof from any group, including Beas, Jaimal was initiated by Swami Ji.

Note*.(Dec.25,1902, 3;00 P.M) Jaimal and two others were allowed by Council to give initiation at the first meeting. One of the others was named Lala Raj Narain. When Salig Ram died Narain had spent much effort and money to get himself proclaimed as guru. It had failed, (Corres.1,1960,p.399,Agra).

.................

It is interesting two would be gurus, Jaimal and Narain, were given permission to initiate at the first Council meeting. It is a clear indication the Council was reigning in those perceived as possible misfits. The third person allowed to initiate that day was Babu Nirmal Chandra Banerji. After Misra's death, he put forth the theory of perpetual interregnum. He had several followers in this view and the group lasted to modern days. Salig Ram had started teaching Radhasoami faith before the death of Swami Ji, as Swami Ji stated in his last will. Upon, Swami Ji's death, Salig Ram immediately began giving discourses at Panni Gali, Agra. His job as Postmaster of Uttar Pradesh took him to Allahabad, where he gave initiation and satsangs for some years, until his retirement brought him back to Peepal Mandi, his home. He had thousands of disciples in this time period. Often, people look at Salig Ram's retirement date as his date of beginning guruship. This is incorrect, he immediately began acting as guru. Sudarshan's court testimony that Salig Ram manifested about 8 years after Swami Ji died, often causes this confusion.

It should be noted Dr. Agam Mathur, author of Radhasoami Faith as his doctorate book, 'Dadaji' as he is called, as master of Peepal Mandi group currently, is critical of the Council. But, his grandfather 'Lalaji' Adjohia was president of this Council after Chachaji. He remained president till his death in 1926 and had confirmed Sankar Misra was the Sat Guru of the day in court depositions, which exactly matched Sudarshan's testimony.

From letter #99, from "Spiritual Letters," published by Radha Soami Satsang Beas:

"You know that a committee has now been formed in Agra. Chacha Ji will also write to you on this subject. Chacha Ji desires that we should all co-operate with the Agra Committee. Although have given him my formal consent, it is not possible for me to agree with the committee because the 'updesh,' (initiation) of (Misra) is not in accordance with Swami Ji's method of Bhajan practice and have forgotten it altogether. On account of this, I cannot agree with the committee. You are being informed, and when Chacha Ji Maharaj writes to you, kindly tell him that this matter shoud be referred to Baba Jaimal Singh. I am informing Chacha Ji Maharaj that if they are prepared to satisfy my three conditions, I shall fully co-operate with them. The three conditions are:

1 ---The 'updesh', namely the system and method of Initiation and Bahajan, should be the same as was practised and taught by Swami Ji Maharaj, and not as ......

2--- We should hve the option of nominating three members from the Beas Satsang, but you and I should not become members. WE shall select our own members.

3 --- Offerings will not be solicitied form our Satsangis, because they ar all poor and we do not wish to take anything from them. Here we give 'updesh' (initiation) only for Bhajan and Simran.

End of Excerpt from letter #99.

.................

From Spiritual Letters #97, published by RSSB:

"However,I may add that it is not possible for me to co-operate with (Misra) in matters spiritual. He is a disciple of (Salig Ram) and the latter had completely forgotten the method and details of Initiation, which was bestowed upon him by Swami Ji Maharaj. Therefore, how can (Misra) (this disciple of his) know anything about it? I have written this letter and enclosed the original so that you may also know the correct position. I shall myself inform Chacha Ji when I reply to him. He already knows and you should also know that the method of Abhyas (Shabd Practice) which was given by Swami Ji Maharaj was and is TRUE AND CORRECT, and you were all initated along those very lines (as instructed by Swami Ji Himself)."

With a Great Master, Beas 1982(1934) page 159 : "Our Beas group had its inception through the work of Saint Baba Jaimal Singh, who was a disciple of the founder, Soami Ji, but was never connected with the Agra group. AND SO THIS CENTER HAS NEVER HAD ANY CONNECTION WITH THE AGRA GURUS...HAS NEVER HAD ANY SORT OF CONNECTION WITH THE OTHER CENTERS OR THEIR GURUS, except that of brotherly love". end quote

.................

Both Jaimal and Sawan initiated under article 16 of the Council for Sat Guru Misra and Sawan also for Bauji Devi and Babuji Madhav Sinha until 1913-1917. The Council sent the paper initiation forms to both.

.................

"With the Three Masters", Beas 174 page 200 ; Sawan tells Chachaji (Pratap Singh, Swami Ji's younger brother, President of the Council) "I am unfit for this duty and some sadhu should be sent to initiate" . Chachaji states "..obey my order and start bestowing initiation". Chachaji asked Sawan in letter to appoint "some educated satsangi whom will then be sent paper initiation." ; as referenced in Letter #5, Spiritual Letters, Beas, 1965,p133. Beas books claim Sawan gave the initiations himself . If Sawan was a guru , why would they send him paper initiation and tell him to appoint some educated satsangi?

.................

Chachaji owned the Soami Bagh Gardens. Chachaji gave the Gardens to Sankar Misra, the third sat guru. Chachaji and Misra started the Council to promote peace and 'harmony' among the 'different sects and cliques' according to a Beas reproduced letter from Chachaji to Jaimal, dated August 4, 1902,(Corr.,Agra, v.2,p.604;also see Biography of Babuji Maharaj,Agra,1971,p.466).

.................

The Council ballots stated for management of Satsang and properties until the "Sat Guru again makes His advent. The Council will then only assist Him...", (ref. page 468 same book).

.................

Sudarshan Singh, Lala Suchet Singh and Lala Sujan Singh (Chachaji' sons) were also on the Council and ballots, Ref. Holy Epistles,Part1,1982,p.335. With four of Swami Ji's family on the ballots and later the Council, Jaimal's comment that Swami Ji's family had no connection with the Council is rediculous . Sons of Chachaji placed in voting ;#5 Sudarshan Singh 1718,#8 Suchet Singh 1587,#16 Sujan Singh 111. Sujan came on Council afterwards, as he was not in top ten. It should be noted the top ten vote getters received over 1444 votes each, 1444 was the tenth place. Third in votes was Lala Raj Narain Saheb with 1810 votes and forth Babu Baleshwar prashad of Allahabad with 1769. It must be remembered, the top ten vote getters would from the initial management Council.

.................

The vote was not to determine the next sat guru. Chachaji, Sudarshan, Adjohia, etc., and everybody they would have told, already knew it was Sankar Misra. The fact that Misra beat Adjohia of Peepal Mandi in votes, with his group at Benares only 1/4 the size, shows Misra's universal acceptance as the next sat guru by the various groups that voted. Jaimal knew he would not get enough votes to place in top ten for Council, so he requested 3 seats on Council as condition to join (along with some other rediculous requests mentioned in this article). It is very important to remember when Jaimal was dying he said to go to Chachaji for the secret of sound current in Sat Nam and with questions. This is absolute proof Jaimal (and Beas) consider Chachaji a Sant, as it is written in Beas books as quoted by Jaimal himself. At the exact moment Jaimal was dying and telling his followers to go to Chachaji afterwards, he was being excommunicated by Chachaji (sons and Council). Chachaji is also considered a sant by most or all RS groups.

.................

Regarding Sawan in 1904 Professor Dr. David C. Lane Nov. 30, 1999 Internet Exsatsangi Club stated : "My hunch is that Charan himself (like the Pope in the Catholic Church) believed in the Power of his own guru. We know that this is exactly how Sawan himself responded to his appointment. He knew he wasn't a master so he turned to Partap Singh (Chachaji) for some kind of way out or support."

.................

"With The Three Masters,1974,Beas,p.230, Sawan says in 1944 to group of people he refused to give initiation after Jaimal died until prevailed upon by Chachaji. Sawan said his "mind continued to remain in a state of agitation until he was assured by what He saw that his initiates were being taken care of." Sawan does not tell how he determined he was a sat guru a decade or so later, being he was not appointed by anyone. In other books, Sawan says that the master's Guru, or His Guru, etc., are responsible for initiates (implying if current master not up to snuff, it can be rationalized by going back to competent master in past).

.................

In Sawan's case, since he self declared himself a master, it means disciples are fully at the mercy of his judgement on his own competency as sat guru, or better pray a past competent Guru will help !!! This is critical because Babuji Madhav Sinha was the guru Sawan was initiating under when he made his break. Sawan obviously considered Babuji Sinha a sat guru, but Babuji Sinha completely denied Sawan was such; and also said Sawan's initiations were invalid and not under the protection of the Agra lineage in court depositions.

Note: c. S. Gurpreet Singh Dhillon

The struggle for regaining control of their gurdwaras after the fall of Ranjit Singh's empire in the mid 1800s offers a prime example of the multidimensional nature of attacks on Sikh security in India. Prior to the decline of Maharajah Ranjit Singh's empire, Sikhs were forced into the forests and jungles of northern India for safety from attacking marauders. As the established gurdwaras often lacked knowledgeable Sikh caretakers, they were left vulnerable to the introduction of Hindu rituals initiated by Sahajdharis, non-Sikhs who systematically took control of the religious services in the gurdwaras. Paramount to the Sikhs' vulnerability in this instance is Guru Nanak's deliberate non inclusion of a priest figure in Sikh religion. The ritual practices of Brahmans, the priestly upperclass, had been used to enforce the distinction between classes and castes and thus were forbidden by Guru Nanak. Sahajdhari encroachment into the vacated gurdwaras allowed the very acts disavowed by Nanak to creep into Sikh practices. The Sahajdhari influence carried over into British rule, as a class of hereditary gurdwara "managers", Mahants, were allowed control of the gurdwaras. The Mahants continued anti-Sikh Hindu ritual practices in the gurdwaras while often taking money form worshipers and living lavishly off such exploitation, in traditional Brahamanical fashion and completely contrary to Guru Nanak's teachings. Such conditions led to a five-year struggle for control of the gurdwaras in which 30,000 Sikhs were arrested, 2000 wounded, and 1,100 killed over a period from 1919 to 1924. However, the effect on the Sikh population carried over into other spheres as well. 1. The Council was voted upon by the different RS groups. It included Jaimal's name as candidate. While Misra and Adjohia received over 1800 votes each, Jaimal only received 36 votes. It would seem Jaimal's own Beas group did not support him. Jaimal states Chachaji was "happy" in a Beas printed letter he did not support the Council. Chachaji was in fact very unhappy with Jaimal.

.................

Page 310 Correspondence 1, Maheswari says "Lala Sudarshan Singh, Chachaji's own son, introduced the Council resolution to administer the a strong warning to Baba Jaimal ". Beas notes Sudarshan as a Sant in their books. Sudarshan Singh was Chachaji's youngest son. He was at the last testament of Swami Ji and asked the now infamous question " Whom do we turn to for advice", Swami Ji replied, "Salig Ram" and of course "Salig Ram has started the Radhaswami Faith, let it also continue". In Beas books, Sawan bows at the feet of Sudarshan Singh ( see With a Great Master in India, Beas, 1982, page 158 ). The author notes him as a Saint. In fact Sawan had called him such exalted names, Sudarshan had to reprimand him for their use.

(end Misra quote) In same letter Sudarshan continues, " A few days prior to the day on which this declaration was made, Misra informed in camera four or five satsangis...that the Nij Dhar was in His sister(Buaji). This fact was also communicated to me, in strict confidence by Maharaj Saheb some time in 1887. " After Maharaj Saheb( Misra), Buaji Saheba became the sant sat guru, and after her, Babuji Maharaj (don't confuse name with Jaimal, different master, 5th Council guru died 1949) . I can state the former sat gurus were giving me hints about the successor-sant sat gurus. Swami Ji had spoken in CLEAR TERMS about Hazur Maharaj( Salig Ram). During His ( Salig Ram's) last days, Hazur (Salig Ram) gave out to me that Soami Ji (Swami Ji) had told Him that two Nij Ansh of his( Swami Ji) were in Benares as brother and sister and they should be taken care of...Buaji was a full Avatar and incarnation of Radhasaomi Dayal...after the departure of Misra, Buaji was Sant Guru...." end quote Sudarshan ( Buaji Devi was the sister mentioned and 4th sat guru of Agra lineage, after Misra for Council, whom was 3rd)

.................

Same book, page 16, Adjohia (son of Salig Ram)called Lalaji, whom latter became president of the Council, states exactly what Sudarshan has just stated above. His quote comes under oath in law suit by Dayal Bagh. Remember, Adjohia was 7 votes behind Misra in Council vote, but acknowleged his father Salig Ram said Misra was the next Guru and Bauji Devi, his sister was Nij Ansh. My research shows him a possible legitimate sant, also. But, he followed the Council sat gurus strictly, such was his humility.

.................

So we see Sudarshan Singh follow the parent lineage till the day he died. There is absolutely no question of this from his many records and letters, which exist to this day and court testimony. Beas, in its Spiritual Letters book, 'does not make clear Sudarshan Singh followed the parent Agra lineage to his dying day'. Beas leaves the impression Sudarshan Singh endorsed Sawan. The fifth sat guru for the Council was Babuji Madhav Sinha, whom died in 1949 . Babuji Sinha was Sudarshan's master when he died in 1935.

.................

It is also a misconception the vote was to determine the next sat guru. Misra and Chachaji started the Council with the ballots stating 'when the Sat Guru again makes His Advent'. But, we know Chachaji, Sudarshan and Adjohia already knew Sankar Misra (chief disciple of Salig Ram) was the next sat guru, despite his early letters holding people at bay. It appears Misra was already known as the next sat guru before he brought the Council together. Obviously all the Council, Chachaji and sons knew he was the highest among them. Misra was in absolute control of Council as Sat Guru. Misra was highly intelligent and had a masters degree.

.................

His good friend Babuji Sinha (5th guru) was already acting as sat guru for Misra's sister Bauji Devi from 1909 onward to her 1913 death, therefore there is little question about his inheritance of guruship from Bauji Devi. Babuji did check out other claimants after her death, but it appears from curiosity and to check dissidents. Salig Ram's letters had predicted all sorts of gurus styling themselves Radhasoami. Babuji could not stop the dissidents after the death of Chachaji. Gharib Das was a great example of a man claiming to be a guru who's group has been described as bizarre. We only need look back in history, at all the scores of guru claimants, to see how far fetched many of them were. We only need look at some current gurus to see helpless self righteous people in full pretense mode. The current state of affairs is far more scary than anything seen in the past and can only be described as 'slick' and 'polished' history and rethoric, in severe degeneration of the remarkable faith Salig Ram had begun.

.................

As letters from these original gurus can be misinterpreted, due to the extreme humility of Agra lineage, so can many other facts of history. Often we see Salig Ram dressed up in very beautiful costumes in old photos. Now days we don't realize disciples back then traveled hundreds of miles to reach him. They brought these beautiful garments for him to wear and return to them. The photos were then used by disciples for meditation. Salig Ram was the most extreme example of absolute humility in Radhasoami history. He constantly talked about love. A very astonishing man to say the least and certainly Radhasoami believers can be proud of their founder. Remember, when you read letters from Agra gurus, they were actually made known and printed by Agra RS group itself in their books, much to their credit.

.................

Note:

As previously stated Chachaji, Sudarshan and Adjohia were informed by Salig Ram (and vagely at hinted by Swami Ji with brother and sister statement) that Sankar Misra would be the next sat guru. People wrote letters to Misra asking when he would make himself known. He gently stalled them off till 1902 when he formed the Council. Sankar Misra was at Allahabad and Benares, with his sister Bauji Devi at their house, when he sent these reply letters below. The first letter strongly hints he is taking about himself as next master.

........ 9 .........

Sawan visited Babuji Madhav Sinha, the 5th sat guru, and showed great respect, long after his break from Agra. Babuji had been a favorite of Swami Ji and Sawan had to be in awe of him. Bubuji Sinha, in a still existent letter, informs his son, "Sawan has gone too far to recede now", after Sawan left their meeting. Corres. with Americans 5, shows actual photostat of handwritten letter by Babuji to his son. Babuji never accepted the legitimacy of Jaimal's or Sawan's initiations outside Council authority, or their Guruships at any time, according to court depositions.

.................

Remember, Swami Ji left Salig Ram and Radhaji as 'visible masters' in his will, not Chachaji. Chachaji first initiated for Radhaji, Salig Ram, Misra, then the woman master Bauji Devi, not for himself . Sudarshan did the same according to court deposition testimony .

.................

Sawan (or whoever initiated at Beas) was licensed to initiate for Misra, Chachaji had given the Soami Bagh Gardens to Misra. Sawan could NOT initiate for Radhaji. She was dead ten years before Sawan became an initiator in 1904. Sawan could only initiate for the living master of the time, Misra. When Sawan initiated you, you were Misra's (3rd guru) disciple under article 16 of the Council. Later you were Bauji Devi's (4th guru) and Babuji's (5th guru) disciple when Sawan initiated, until around 1915, when Sawan declared himself master at Beas.

.................

Sawan always said you must initiate for a living guru. Jaimal was dead and so was Radhaji. Chachaji followed Misra's guruship. Sawan was inept according to his own words. Jaimal's letters to Sawan show him not advanced in sadhana.

.................

Radhaswami Teachings, Lekh Raj Puri, Beas, 1972 pages 125-129. Mr. Puri states Pratap Singh (Chachaji), Salig Ram, Garib Das and Jaimal Singh worked as Gurus, "But, these highly spiritual men could not be under any Council, or committee. How could they be ? These were true Masters...nobody can dictate to saints and Gurus on spiritual matters." Mr. Puri 'forgets' to mention Chachaji was the president of the Council and one of the true Gurus he just previously mentioned. Chachaji signed the excommunication warning of the Council to Jaimal, just three days before Jaimal died. A rather remarkable omission . Salig Ram was dead 4 years before Council started obviously .

.................

Mr. Puri states the successor Guru can only be appointed by the previous Guru, therefore no interregnum can occur "and it is against the teachings of Swami Ji and all other Saints." Mr. Puri 'forgets' to mention it took Jaimal seven years to initiate his first person and fourteen years to set up Beas. Remember, according to Beas literature , Jaimal said to go to Chachaji when he was dying. Sawan claimed he was inept and powerless. Jaimal was not in Swami Ji's last will statement and Sawan was not in Jaimal's last statement according to Beas. We know Sawan did not break till after Chachaji's death in 1911; very gradually. It is an absolute fact that Sawan accepted Misra as sat guru, or he could not have initiated. Had Sawan broken his promise to Chachaji anytime in 1911 or prior, by posing as a guru, it is almost a certainty the Council would have excommunicated him. And it appears there were other unrelated excommunications by Chachaji and Council, which Sawan would have been keenly aware of. *See note below.

.................

Chachaji had an extremely bad temper and was not someone to fool around with. In Holy Epistles,Agra,pt2,p.67,1961, it is recorded Salig Ram warned Misra (3rd Guru) in a February 13, 1889 letter that his best friend, Babuji Madhav Sinha (who became 5th sat guru), had better pay respects to Radhaji at Agra before comming to see him, or he could be "threatened with excommunication, or otherwise maltreated" by Chachaji. That Chachaji's "actions apparently seem uncontrolled by any principles or regard for anyone." !!!! Salig Ram is using a wry sense of humor in this statement, as he is the Sat Guru of the day. But, the humor has an unmistakable sense of seriousness to it. Chachaji had his hands full with all the fake gurus running around those days. His actions and character seem quite sterling, despite this, as even Salig Ram admitted Chachaji was right most of the time.

Summary XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Take a book like Kirpal Singh's 'Baba Jaimal Singh, A Great Saint', page 44. Kirpal says, " Jaimal Singh was making speedy inner headway...once he told Swami Ji of his ready access to Dasam Dwar." Then Kirpal notes a conversation between Swami Ji and Jaimal on Jaimal's inner progress . This whole story by Kirpal is made up off the top of his head and all other meetings and conversations between Swami Ji and Jaimal . They are completely unreferenced as to source .

.................

Sounds incredible, but there is nothing in history anywhere to show Jaimal ever met Swami Ji face to face, not alone ever talked to him. None of Swami Ji's family ever mentions Jaimal meeting Swami Ji. To make matters worse, other historians quote Kirpal as if all these meetings and conversations are true. Anything you ever read or hear about Jaimal meeting Swami Ji seem completely manufactured by vested parties .

.................

Also, Kirpal manufactures conversations between Jaimal, Chachaji, Radhaji and Salig Ram. Kirpal tells how much Radhaji, Chachaji and Salig Ram respect Jaimal and heap praises on him. Radhaji in these conversations gives Jaimal Swami Ji's red turban and prayer mat after she and Chachaji acknowledge Jaimal's greatness. Kirpal has Radhaji calling Jaimal "The Lord of Sat Lok". It's interesting Kirpal quotes Radhaji as saying Swami Ji left the turban for Jaimal before he died. But, Kirpal notes this conversation as talking place in 1890. This means Jaimal had not been to Soami Bagh, Agra in 12 years. Kirpal definitely infers this. Swami Ji died in 1878. Sure took Radhaji a hell of a long time to give the turban to Jaimal!

.................

Kirpal has Chachaji actually asking Jaimal to sit on a gaddi ! See page 59 Kirpal's Jaimal book,1973 edition. Then Chachaji, Gharib Das (blind helpless sadhu) and Jaimal take off to see Salig Ram in Peepal Mandi, whom hands Jaimal a robe in honor of his greatness, verifying his exalted status by words and asking Jaimal onto his gaddi ! Of course Radhaji (who is not shown as a member of this 1890 trip) magically appears from nowhere at Pipal Mandi at this exact moment to force Jaimal to take the robe from Salig Ram, because he is too humble! But, Kirpal is fully aware Jaimal was thrown out of both Salig Ram's and Misra's satsang for posing as a guru. Kirpal verifies Maheswari's claims about Jaimal's being disliked by other Swami Ji and Salig Ram disciples on page 61 of his book as "(Jaimal on Agra trip to Council) finding himself no longer well received and his words of no avail...returned to Beas." Kirpal is fully aware Chachaji was later to officially call Jaimal to task in Council for posing as a guru. The proof being Kirpal references specifically in footnotes the exact Maheswari books this negative information is contained in with his Jaimal, A Great Saint book ! So, Kirpal knew these conversations were highly implausible, if not absolutely impossible. The question becomes if Kirpal knew all these historical facts about Jaimal, why he didn't tell people in his book? Could it be because if you knew the full history he had omitted, you would know what he was saying could not have happened ?

.................

Kirpal in Jaimal Great Saint book, page 60, reproduces the letter from Chachaji to Jaimal asking his endorsement for the Council members. Kirpal says Jaimal was nominated as 7th on ballot, but decided to remain aloof from the Council due to disagreement on the building of Swami Ji's samadh. But, we know Sawan worshiped at Swami Ji's samadh with his disciples in ritual. So, we see Kirpal produce another so called reason for Jaimal to act as he did. But, Kirpal fails to mention Jaimal wanted three seats on Council and was indeed given permission to initiate after the Council started. Kirpal fails to mention Chachaji and Council chastised Jaimal for posing as a guru and later brought excommunication proceedings. Sawan actually initiated for the Council gurus also, thereby accepting them as sant sat gurus. Why has Kirpal seen fit to exclude this part of Beas history ? Could it be Sawan was bowing at the feet of the Council gurus?

.................

These fictionalized conversations in Jaimal's life by Kirpal, were written in his book as if they actually occurred! Therefore, Kirpal's book, Jaimal, A Great Saint, seems a remarkable embarrassment to Kirpal's legacy and possibly the most extraordinary guru propaganda book ever written. Could these phantasmagorical conversations Kirpal manufactured in his book also show a delusional core basis, for the notion in his own mind, that he was a godlike Saint having reached Sach Kand ?

.................

Kirpal also tried to tie his lineage back to the last Sikh guru Govind and was proven wrong. Kirpal evidently could not read the Akashic records. Kirpal lists no source for conversations between Swami Ji and Jaimal, nor with Chachaji and Radhaji in his book. There is absolutely nothing verifying these conversations ever took place, or of these meetings in history. So how did Kirpal come up with these quotes involving these people in these conversations ? Why doesn't Kirpal show anything historical that Swami Ji ever knew Jaimal, or that someone ever saw Jaimal in Swami Ji's satsang ? With 10,000 people in Swami Ji's satsang, someone must have seen him. But, who ???? And, if any evidence existed, it would have shown up in the last 100 years. Kirpal cannot give reference, because none exist. Kirpal's Jaimal book seems an attempt to counteract Maheswari's devestating history books, which shortly preceded it. It is as if Kirpal is telling Maheswari to back off, that his disciples will believe any crap he tells them. Power politics.

.................

Hence, there is no question in this writers mind Kirpal may have done great injustice to history. Kirpal's book, 'Jaimal, A Great Saint', seems to be the most astonishing piece of fabricated fiction since the story of Santa Claus. This book, I believe, may reek havoc on the true history of Beas for generations. I have extremely severe questions both regarding the integrity, and or sanity of Kirpal, for writing it.

.................

Kirpal, on the introductory page of His Jaimal book quotes a Sar Bachan Prose verse which says "The music streams from a transcendent plane within and is caught by a soldier Saint." The Indian army at that time was loaded with Sikhs, not to mention the last Sikh guru Govind Singh, had his own army, and was probably the one this verse applied too. But, when your grasping for straws, any straw will do.

.................

Sawan Singh was to write two extensive wills . Sawan first transferred properties to Jagat Singh in the first will and then guruship in the second will to Jagat. The first will named Kirpal as caretaker of visitors. It has been reported, but not verified, Jagat's wife jumped off the satsang Ghar in an attempted unsuccessful suicide. Jagat's son later did succeed in suicide if the report is true. At any rate, Kirpal claims Sawan somewhat secretly passed guruship to him as he lay dying, despite massive evidence the wills of Sawan were completely legitimate. Later, Kirpal was to leave a will to his son Darshan, despite reportedly saying for years guruship could not transferred by wills. It has also been reported Kirpal said no one in his family would succeed him. That Sawan would write massive wills, then pass guruship to Kirpal secretly, is rather comical and indeed absurd. Note, Jaimal claimed similar, despite Swami Ji's will and that is equally absurb. Especially since Beas records the will in their version of Sar Bachan.

.................

Chachaji donated the Soami Bagh Gardens to Misra and Sudarshan and Adjohia gave a great deal of money. The other members of the Council also put much money in. Court records show the Council was in debt about 20,000 rupees by about 1910. These Council members were not out to make money. They were dedicated people.

.................

Chachaji, remember, could not appoint a successor to himself, only the Council guru could do that. For Chachaji to do so, would be against his own Council he and Misra had set up and would defeat its purpose .

.................

Jaimal dies December 1903, three days after the Council issues pre ex-communication orders. Chachaji and Council had already chastised Jaimal for posing as a guru previously. These high ranking disciples of Swami Ji and Salig Ram would definitely know a fake. They obviously considered Jaimal not for real. Jaimal answered Misra and Council by stating he was 'not a sant' .

.................

Now Jaimal dies. Sawan and Beas people may have believed Jaimal a sant from posing as a Guru. Chachaji does not disturb this illusion, it would serve no purpose. Sawan initiated for the Council gurus and did so for at least 9 years till 1913-1917. Sawan retired on pension in 1911. He did not pretend to be a Guru during this time evidently. Bhandaras for Jaimal continued (if Beas letters can be believed), as Sawan either still believed Jaimal was a sant, or continued the pretense. Chachaji went along with this, so as not to alienate Beas from the Council. Chachaji could not go to Beas and tell all these people they had been faked out (if he didn't want to be lynched by Beas Punjabi Sikhs?)! The only reference I recall shows Chachaji bowing out of attendance and saying he might send his son Sudarshan (who he mentions probably couldn't get there in time), who had introduced Jaimal's excommunication to the Council 3 days before he died! Poor Sudarshan.

.................

Then Chachaji dies in 1911 and Sat Guru Bauji Devi in 1913 . Sawan starts his gradual break from the Council. The Council guru (Babuji Madhav Sinha) had not appointed Sawan a guru, nor had Chachaji, nor did Jaimal while alive . Sawan declares himself a sat guru out of thin air. Sawan says Jaimal was a sant to legitimize his escape from Council authority and try to connect directly back to Swami Ji. The Council does not resist the breakaway as they are busy with the Dayal Bagh breakaway which started in 1910. The Beas group has said in their books they had no relation to Agra or its gurus. But, we have seen a long relationship occur between Dec. 25, 1902 and 1915 appx.

.................

One statement made by KS that has the appearance of contradicting history itself, is the one made in Heart to Heart Talks – Vol.2:

“The Master never passes the power to his own children – maybe in rare cases if anybody is fit. Guru Angad had so many children; He gave it to Guru Amar Das – and the children started their mastership at home. Similarly in other cases this happens like that.”

What he did not mention was that the fourth through sixth Sikh Gurus were ALL related. That in each case after the fourth Guru (Ramdas) the Mastership was passed on to someone who was either the son or grandson of a previous Master. Now 6 out 9 transferences is not “rare”. (copied from a post)

Notes on Darshan Singh :

quotes by Dr. Harbhajan Singh off Unity of Man Site below

On August 26, 1974 it appeared in the newspaper: Sant Darshan Singh has been installed as spiritual successor of Sant Kirpal Singh Ji Maharaj. Sant Kirpal Singh had written a will in favour of His son.

The Sangat got annoyed and upset Reading this news, the majority of the Sangat got annoyed and all gathered in the Centre. In Sawan Ashram, Delhi, the Sangat started to shout, protesting about the immediate trick of the managing body. Meeting with various representatives I myself (Harbhajan Singh) , Ranbir Singh, Chet Singh from Chandigarh, and most of the members of the Sawan Ashram Delhi management got together for a meeting which started in the house of Gyani Bhagwan Singh. Darshan Singh was requested to come to the meeting. We asked Darshan Singh to tell honestly, if really Master had appointed him as His spiritual successor. He flatly refused and remarked that Master had not given him the power, whereas his relatives, family members and friends compelled him to work as master, and that he never would do that. It was confirmed by all who were present there that by will only worldly wealth can be transferred, but that the spirituality has ever been transferred through the eye. Due to this very reason Master left Beas. Master has written very clearly about this point in many books.

August 19, 1974 - A fake story

As per His order of July 27, I was with Master on August 19, 1974. This order of the Master was known to most of the disciples of Amritsar. I reached Delhi in the evening. I remained beside the bed of the Master throughout the night. Darshan Singh himself was sick and throughout the night neither Master asked him to come, nor did he come there. Another thing proves quite positively the falsehood. Master says, that the Master can transfer the spirituality among thousands and still it is not visible. Whereas, after six months, when Darshan Singh and his supporters were miserably hit back through their ignorance, they hit another plan to misguide the innocent children. They said, that Master had passed His spirituality through the eyes to Darshan Singh in the midnight of August 19, 1974, and that Dr. Metha witnessed the transference with his own eyes; so they thought that this way of transference of spirituality still needed a witness.

(Harbhajan Note: One time with old disciples of Baba Sawan Singh Ji in Amritsar Master said, if somebody would tell Him how the spirituality is transferred from one pole to another pole, He would sacrifice both the worlds for such a person.)

Those devoted disciples of the managing body told that since Darshan Singh had denied that the spirituality had been transferred to him by the Master, how then could he declare himself as the spiritual successor?
